Step 1: Zakat Date, Prices & Nisab

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must own, for one lunar year, before Zakat becomes obligatory. It is measured in gold or silver, so its value depends on the prices on your Zakat date.

Calculating Zakat for a past year you missed? Change the date, then enter the gold and silver prices on that date and what you owned then. The National Zakat Foundation's missed Zakat page explains how to catch up, and shows past Nisab values (in British pounds).

Silver nisab is lower, so more people qualify for Zakat, and many scholars recommend it. Gold nisab is higher. See how they differ.
Step 2: Gold & Silver You Own

Add each gold item with its weight and carat. Its value uses the 24k price from Step 1.

Using the Calculator: FAQs

1. Can I calculate Zakat on gold by carat?

Yes. Most Zakat calculators only ask for the total value of your gold. This one values each item by its purity. Enter the price of 24k gold per gram, then add each item with its weight and carat (24k, 22k, 21k, 20k, 18k, 14k or 10k). The calculator works out the pure-gold value of each piece for you.

2. What should I do if my gold is mixed carat?

Enter each gold item separately using “Add another gold item”, and select the correct carat for each one. The calculator adds them together accurately.

3. Is the gold price automatically updated or do I enter it manually?

You enter the gold and silver prices yourself. Prices differ by country and by jeweler, so this keeps the result accurate for your local market and avoids outdated data.

4. How does this calculator determine the Nisab value?

It multiplies the gold price per gram that you enter by 85 grams for the gold Nisab, or the silver price per gram by 595 grams for the silver Nisab. Because it uses your prices, the Nisab is always in your own currency. Some organizations use 87.48 grams of gold and 612.36 grams of silver instead. See How We Calculate for details.

5. Can I use this calculator if I follow the silver Nisab opinion?

Yes. Select “Silver 595g” in Step 1 and enter the silver price per gram on your Zakat date. The calculator will then compare your wealth against the silver Nisab.

6. How does the calculator handle different currencies?

Simply enter prices and amounts in your local currency. All results follow the same currency you use.

7. Can I print or save my Zakat calculation as a record?

Yes. Select “Print Report” to get a dated summary of your assets, liabilities, Nisab and Zakat due. Print it, or choose “Save as PDF” in the print window, to keep a record of your Zakat year after year.

8. Can I calculate Zakat for a past year I missed?

Yes. In Step 1, change the Zakat date to that year's date, then enter the gold and silver prices on that date and the amounts you owned then. Print a report for each year. The National Zakat Foundation's missed Zakat page explains how to catch up on missed years.

9. Can I use this calculator for both personal and business Zakat?

Yes. You can calculate Zakat on personal wealth, business inventory, investments, or a combination of these.

10. Can I use this tool to calculate Zakat for my family members?

Yes. Calculate for each person separately by entering their own assets and liabilities, and print a report for each.

11. Does the calculator work on mobile devices?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers.

12. Do I need to create an account to use the calculator?

No. The tool works instantly, with no login, no sign-up and no personal information required.

13. Does this website store or track any personal data?

No. All calculations happen in your browser, and the amounts you enter are never stored, saved or sent to any server. See our Privacy Policy for details about cookies and advertising.
